GU Mark
GU Mark － means under “Approval Scheme for Domestic Gas Appliances”, all models of domestic gas appliances to be supplied / sold in Hong Kong shall be approved by the Gas Authority, EMSD. It signifies that such models have been produced in accordance with recognized international safety standards and local requirements and are subjected to local quality assurance checks in Hong Kong laboratories.
Approved domestic gas appliances bearing a GU Mark shall have a flame failure device, which will cut off gas supply when extinguishment of flame is detected, to avoid gas leakage.
Any person who fails to comply with mandatory requirements relating to the importation, manufacture in Hong Kong, sale or supply of domestic gas appliances for use in Hong Kong will be liable to a maximum fine at level 6($100,000) and one-year imprisonment.
