Two
young ambassadors were appointed to lead an outreach programme designed for
kindergarten students. They have visited more than 250 kindergartens and reached
35,000 pupils over a nine-month period, conveying messages about the safe use
of amusement rides, lifts and escalators through story telling, games and demonstrations.
With
over 16,000 taxis - accounting for almost 90 per cent of all diesel taxis in
Hong Kong - having made the switch to LPG and with the completion of the network
of dedicated filling stations, the LPG vehicle scheme has progressed to the
second stage targeting light buses. There are currently more than 200 LPG light
buses on the road.
This
year, EMSD again organised the E&M Safety Campaign, which was scaled up
to include 18 collaborating organisations. It featured an innovative media programme
utilising television, radio and print to promote energy efficiency and safety
messages in a light-hearted fashion. The campaign climaxed in an outdoor carnival
in November, which attracted thousands of people from different walks of life.
