機電工程署全力支持政府推行的環保午膳計劃。這計劃在2009/10年度施政報告宣布推行，目的是鼓勵學校不再使用即棄餐盒，並減少廚餘。我們的角色是為學校提供一站式服務，協助學校設計和安裝所需設備，以便引進可重複使用的食物容器和餐具，為學生供應午膳。在某些學校，還包括裝修小食部或貯物室，以裝置現場派飯所需的設施。

我們這項目不但參加了2011年公務員優質服務獎勵計劃，還很高興能參與攝製公務員事務局一套以環保午膳計劃為題的短片，用作宣傳政府服務的模範個案。負責項目的同事不但提供攝製內容，更親自出鏡，現身說法，分享落實這項目的經驗！

環保午膳計劃短片已於2011年11月和2012年2月間，分別在公共交通工具的視聽娛樂系統、及在約300個政府場地的公眾大堂播放，並已上載至公務員易學網及政府青少年網站供公眾瀏覽。短片得到的回響相當不錯，而公務員事務局亦對我們的支援表示讚賞。 

機電工程署至今已協助70多家學校落實環保午膳計劃，每個上課日都減少約共5萬個即棄餐盒及7公噸廚餘。2012年我們會再協助20家學校設立綠色廚房。

EMSD is a keen supporter of the Government’s Green Lunch initiative, introduced in the 2009/10 Policy Address to discourage the use of disposable lunch boxes in schools and reduce food waste. Our role is to provide a one-stop service to help schools design and install the equipment they needed to provide lunch to students using reusable food containers and cutlery. In some cases, it also includes the renovation of tuck shops or store rooms to create facilities for on-site meal portioning.

Following our participation in the 2011 Civil Service Outstanding Service Award Scheme, we were delighted to have the opportunity to work with the Civil Service Bureau (CSB) in the production of a short video on the Green Lunch initiative as part of a campaign to publicise exemplary Government services. Our project staff gave input to the content, and even appeared in the video to share first-hand experience of how the project was implemented!

The video was broadcast in November 2011 and February 2012 via public transport audiovisual entertainment systems and in public lobbies at about 300 government venues respectively. In addition, the video was uploaded to the CLC Plus website and government youth portal for public browsing. The footage received a good response and CSB appreciated our support.

EMSD has, up to now, helped more than 70 schools implement the Green Lunch initiative, eliminating the disposal of about 50,000 lunch boxes and cutting food waste by seven tonnes a school day. A further 20 schools will set up their green kitchens in 2012 with our help.
