When stepping onto an escalator or moving walkway:
- Be aware of the direction of the escalator or moving walkway before stepping on
- Take extra care and stand firm when stepping on
- Keep loose clothing and shoelaces clear of step edges
- Do not wait or stand in the landing area
When riding on an escalator or moving walkway:
- Always hold the handrail
- Always face forwards
- Stand firm and don't walk
- Stand clear of the steps edges
- Always watch your step if wearing sandals or slippers
- Do not lean against the sides or rest on the handrail
- Do not sit on the escalator step
- Do not run, play or jump
- Take extra care when stepping off
When stepping off an escalator or moving walkway:
- Step off promptly
- Move away from the landing area immediately
General safety guidelines
- Look after children and offer assistance to the elderly
- Always use the lift if carrying bulky baggage, using a baby pushchair, or a wheelchair
- Do not carry any excessively long object
- Keep your feet clear of the side edges
- Take extra care when an escalator is stopped and used as a fixed staircase as theheight of steps will vary
- In the event of an accident immediately press the Emergency Stop button
