Sustainable Development into the 21st Century
Energy efficiency and a clean environment are essential elements of sustainable development for future generations. The EMSTF has the experience and expertise to help clients use less energy, save energy costs and improve their working environment. Recent examples include:
|
- We conducted an energy study for more than 20 client hospitals to identify potential energy saving areas, reviewed their existing energy tariffs and obtained the most cost-effective tariff schemes from the power utilities for them. We also assisted the Hospital Authority to formulate global energy conservation strategies and prioritised its energy retrofit measures and projects.
- We visited more than 100 Hong Kong Police Force buildings and venues, aiming to reduce energy consumption by optimising the client's air-conditioning usage. We also conducted several detailed energy audits for the Police Headquarters Complex to identify energy conservation measures.

- Working with the Airport Authority, we identified energy saving opportunities at the airport such as operating less chillers at night and installing timers to control concourse lighting during designated hours.
- We carried out 11 energy audits for major unattended municipal venues. A number of technical improvement proposals to improve energy efficiency were presented to the clients and were well received.

- Our resident team at the Macau Ferry Terminal reduced the client's electricity consumption despite an overall increase in the ambient temperature by applying several manual control algorithms to the air-conditioning plant.
- To safeguard the health and welfare of the users of public premises, we perform routine indoor air quality surveys to verify the status of air-conditioning systems in over 700 venues, including municipal centres, government offices, hospitals and clinics. We are specialists in employing state-of-the-art equipment and knowledge for indoor air quality inspection and improvement programmes.
- We inspected and cleaned air ducts for many municipal venues, creating better indoor air quality for gym users, concert audiences and library visitors. Regular air samplings, air duct inspections and cleaning were also conducted at public hospitals and clinics to ensure the health and safety of patients, their families and medical staff.
- To ensure that no ozone-depletion substances, such as certain refrigerants and fire fighting gas flooding agents, are used on public premises under our services, we have put in place stringent measures to ensure that only zero-ozone-depletion potential chemicals are used in our air-conditioning and fire fighting installations.
