To celebrate the Kick-off Ceremony of the Olympic Torch Relay in Hong Kong at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza in Tsim Sha Tsui, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) put up a ten-metre high commemorative replica of the Olympic Torch at the venue so that citizens and tourists could take photos of the special occasion. Upon LCSD’s request, EMSD installed four sets of energy efficient LED spot lights to illuminate the Torch, making it a shimmering icon in the evening harbour view. |

| EMSD set up 3.5G mobile video transmission facilities in the official Media Car on the day of the Relay to capture proceedings of each torch bearer along the route. Real-time images were transmitted to RTHK TV House through a wireless network, which served as back-up footage. This ensures that the public has access to the Torch Relay images. EMSD also provided support in road traffic monitoring along the Torch Relay route by installing nine sets of 3.5G wireless mobile CCTV systems. Real-time images were fed to the Emergency Transport Coordination Centre of the Transport Department for monitoring and coordination measures. EMSD staff also stood by at the Emergency Transport Coordination Centre and RTHK TV House throughout the event to provide technical support. |

| Hong Kong’s first electric scooters made their debut on the day of the Torch Relay. We procured these zero-emission motorcycles. |
“Green Olympics” is one of the three major concepts of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. EMSD assisted the Hong Kong Police to incorporate this element into the Torch Relay. The Relay was marshaled by the Hong Kong Police motorcycle fleet of which six were electric scooters. These environment-friendly zero emission scooters were procured by EMSD. We also provided standby services for all the participating government vehicles on the day to ensure a smooth event.
