EMSD has won the Bronze Award in the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2007 — Best Public Service Application (Small Scale Project) Category organised by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers for a self-developed Mobile Wireless CCTV System. This is not only a testament to the professional competence and innovation of our project officers, but also a manifestation of our belief in “Science and Technology for the Public”.

This innovative system utilises the HSDPA (3.5G) mobile phone network and Internet technology, which allows flexible installation at a reasonable cost, to transmit real-time images of traffic conditions to the Emergency Transport Coordination Centre of the Transport Department. This permits the Transport Department to inform the public of current traffic conditions, thus diverting traffic from congestion points and shorten travel time for motorists. The system has been in operation since mid 2006 and has received acclaim from client department and the public.

Riding on the success, EMSD will soon introduce an advanced HSUPA (3.75G) Mobile CCTV System with significant improvements in video quality. Winning awards aside, our real satisfaction comes from enhancing the quality of life of the public with the help of technology.
