The Provision of Value-Added Services

Staff checking the air-conditioning system at the Cheung Sha Wan Government Office Building.he General Engineering Services Division had a record year registering significant business growth in 1999/2000, as a result of marked productivity gains, various business process improvements and further headcount reductions. New business, such as air duct cleaning services welcomed by many clients, also contributed to revenue growth.

During the year, the Cheung Sha Wan Government Office Building was taken over for E&M and building services maintenance. The division has also begun to take over the maintenance of portable fire fighting equipment, to the satisfaction of many user departments.

EMSTF provided technical support for the transformation of the building and provides routine maintenance.Another new business activity is one-stop facilities management. The division launched two pilot schemes at the San Po Kong Government Office Building and Canton Road Government Office Building. Facilities management, whereby clients obtain all E&M, building services, security and related services via one point of contact, has become the trend in the market. The division regards the new service as a further step in helping clients to enhance efficiency.

After the decommissioning of the old Kai Tak Airport Passenger Terminal Building in 1998, it has been transformed into a multi-purpose complex comprising government offices, bowling alleys and vehicle showrooms, among others. The division has been providing customers with various forms of support, ranging from technical advice and renovation works, to reorganising the routine of maintenance and operation services to facilitate smooth operations and transformation.

The division has also undertaken and completed fire services upgrading works at various child care centres and a number of government offices to enhance the safety of occupants in these venues.

IT development, indoor air quality measurement and improvement are key areas of expansion. As in the past, the division will continue to support customers through the provision of value-added services in their bid for energy conservation, such as conducting energy audits and pursuing energy management opportunities at client venues.
