The E&M Safety Campaign 2014

Poster Design Competition

Objectives

The E&M Safety Campaign 2014 is organized by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) and co-organized by the Building Services Division, Electrical Division, Gas & Energy Division and Mechanical, Marine, Naval Architecture and Chemical Division as well as the Safety Specialist Committee of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. It aims to raise awareness of E&M safety and energy efficiency among the public so that they can put it into practice in daily life. Poster Design Competition is part of the E&M Safety Campaign 2014 and its objectives are to promote E&M safety and energy efficiency, as well as constant vigilance on E&M safety and commitment to energy conservation and environmental protection.

Eligibility

Only the staff/members of Participating Organizations of the E&M Safety Campaign 2014 are eligible to participate in the competition.

Design rules and guidelines

  1. Entries shall be designed to align with the main theme of the E&M Safety Campaign 2014, which is related to E&M Safety (機電安全) and Energy Efficiency (節能環保) to the community.
  2. The size of each entry shall be 420 mm x 594 mm (minimum) to 1200 mm x 1800 mm (maximum). Only portrait-oriented poster is accepted. The poster shall be designed at a resolution of 300 dpi in CMYK mode.
  3. Should any word appear on the poster, they shall be in Chinese.
  4. The entry must be original and has never been published or submitted to any other competitions. It shall not contain any insinuating, defamatory or obscene content, and shall not infringe the intellectual property rights or any rights of a third party. The design may use any form of photography, illustration, typography, provided no copy rights are violated.

Submission and Format

  1. The number of entries submitted by each entrant is not limited.
  2. Every entry shall be submitted together with an enrolment form containing entrant’s details and a brief description on the design concept with no more than 250 words in Chinese.
  3. The poster design shall be submitted in electronic copy contained in a CD-ROM either in .tiff, .jpeg or .pdf format.
  4. Entrants shall submit entries to the following address:

Closing Date of the Competition

Entrants shall submit the completed enrolment form(s) and their entry(ies) contained in a CD-ROM to the EMSD on or before 31 August 2014.

Judging Panel and Selection Criteria

  1. All the designs will be assessed by a Judging Panel to select the top three designs (i.e. Champion, First Runner-up, and Second Runner-up) and Merit designs.
  2. Assessments will be based on the following selection criteria:
    • Design concept and readability (40%)
    • Originality and Creativity (30%)
    • Relevance to the theme (30%)

Awards and Result announcement

  1. There will be a Champion, a First Runner-up and a Second Runner-up for the competition. Trophies and Certificates will be awarded to the top three winners.
  2. Certificates will also be awarded to the Merit design awardees.
  3. The competition results will be announced byend of September 2014.

Award Presentation Ceremony and Publicity

  1. Awards will be presented to the top three winners and Merit design awardees in the award presentation ceremony of the E&M Safety Carnival 2014 on 6 December 2014.
  2. Winning entries would be displayed at the Carnival and produced for the promotion of the E&M Safety Campaign 2014. Other entries may also be displayed at the Carnival.

Important Notes

  1. All company / personal information collected in this competition will only be used for the purpose of the "E&M Safety Campaign 2014 ".
  2. No entries, whether selected or not, will be returned. Organizer owns the copyright of all the entries, including but not limited to the right to display in the "E&M Safety Carnival 2014". Entrants shall submit the original design file (i.e. AI file) to EMSD upon request.
  3. All the entries shall not be published on any social media (i.e. Facebook) before the announcement of results.
  4. In case the poster design is believed to have infringed upon the copyright of another individual or group, EMSD reserves the right to remove the poster from exhibition and retract any awards even after notification has been made.
  5. The decision of the Judging Panel on the results of the competition shall be final. Participating Organizations and entrants shall raise no objection.
  6. Organizer reserves the right to change the competition rules and any other arrangements without prior notice.
