Ambulances are about saving lives, and to do so they must be carefully designed to facilitate the transportation as well as monitoring the emergency treatment of patients in the most efficient way.
Procured by EMSTF, the new-look fleet of Fire Services Department (FSD) ambulances, which features seamless furniture, an automatic pedal to facilitate boarding and alighting, and increased horsepower for better performance, has been put into operation gradually since November 2010.
EMSTF is responsible for the maintenance of ambulances. To enhance their availability, EMSTF has set up an on-site quick repair shop at FSD's Cheung Sha Wan ambulance depot in October 2010. The shop provides quick repair and fault diagnosis service to ambulances covering the Kowloon West and New Territories South regions. This is the third on-site quick repair shop set up by EMSTF at FSD depots, the other two being located in Yuen Long and Shatin respectively.
EMSTF conducted several experience sharing and training sessions for FSD ambulance officers at its Kowloon Bay vehicle workshop in August 2010, to brief them on the new ambulances' special features and offer some driving tips. The sessions also helped strengthen the partnership between the frontline staff of FSD and EMSTF.
