Voluntary Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme (VEELS)
EMSD has launched a Voluntary Energy Efficiency Scheme (VEELS) for appliances and equipment that operate both at home and office as well as for vehicles. Under the scheme, household appliances and office equipment plus petrol passenger cars will incorporate an energy efficiency label that aims to promote greater public awareness of energy conservation and environmental improvement needs, and further enables consumers take product's energy consumption and efficiency into account in making their purchasing decision. Types of Labelling
The VEELS for electric appliances and office equipment will be operated in two types of labelling system, namely, Grading and Recognition type. For the 'Grading Type' labelling system, all appliances will be graded to the 5 grades on the basis of energy consumption index (percentage), with Grade 1 being the most energy efficient and Grade 5 the least.
For the 'Recognition Type' labelling system, all participating appliances will be registered provided that they can meet the energy efficiency and performance requirements specified in the scheme. There is no energy efficiency grade assigned to each appliance.
There is no energy efficiency grade or minimum energy efficiency requirements in 'Comparison Type' labelling system for petrol passenger cars. Instead, the 'Comparison Type' energy label will provide useful fuel consumption data for comparison purpose.
