purchase LPG cylinders from approved cylinder LPG distributors because these distributors are subject to the monitoring of their respective registered gas supply companies and will conduct regular safety checks for their customers; and |

pay attention to the number of LPG cylinders (including empty cylinders) stored at home or in the shop and make sure that the total nominal water capacity of the LPG cylinders does not exceed 130 litres; and |
|
record the LPG consumption rate, draw up the best timetable for placing purchase order of cylinder LPG replacement and confirm the quantity required so as to avoid the accumulation of excessive LPG cylinders; and |
|
keep the receipts of the recently purchased LPG cylinders for record and for contacting the cylinder LPG distributors in the future; and |
|
return the used LPG cylinders to the approved cylinder LPG distributors as soon as possible. |
purchase LPG cylinders from a shop which has not been approved by a registered gas supply company; or |
|
purchase LPG cylinders from persons/shops that are unidentified, cannot provide sales receipts or sell LPG cylinders supplied by gas supply companies that are not registered; or |
|
dispose of used LPG cylinders improperly or give them to the scrap metal collectors. |
store LPG cylinders upright; and |
|
store LPG cylinders in a location which is well-ventilated, away from heat and flames and readily accessible. |
store LPG cylinders (including empty cylinders) with a total nominal water capacity of over 130 litres (approximately 50 kg); or |
|
place LPG cylinders near flammable materials or store them together with other flammable materials; or |
|
use or keep LPG cylinders below ground level , adjacent to drains or in basements; or |
|
place LPG cylinders in public places or in places where the LPG cylinders may be maliciously damaged. |
ask the cylinder LPG distributor to exchange the LPG cylinders. If the users have to exchange the LPG cylinders themselves, before the exchange, they should check the cylinders, the pressure regulator, the flexible gas tubing and the connection joint for damage, leak or loose connection; and |
|
before exchanging LPG cylinders, extinguish all nearby flames and switch off the gas appliances and the pressure regulator; and |
|
when exchanging LPG cylinders, carefully and firmly re-connect the pressure regulator, and check that there is no smell or sound of gas leaking from the cylinder connection; and |
|
after exchanging LPG cylinders, switch on the pressure regulator and check that the gas appliances for proper operation. |
use LPG cylinders of unknown sources; or |
|
smoke when exchanging LPG cylinders; or |
|
use naked flame when exchanging LPG cylinders. |
arrange for a registered gas contractor to check/repair the LPG cylinders or gas appliances once it is found that they do not operate normally; and |
|
use the pressure regulator provided by the respective gas supply company and protect it from damage; and |
|
check the service life expiry dates of the pressure regulator of the LPG cylinder and the flexible gas tubing, and arrange for a cylinder LPG distributor to replace the pressure regulator and the flexible gas tubing before they expire; and |
|
if a gas leak is suspected, switch off the pressure regulator of the LPG cylinder and the gas appliances, extinguish all naked flames and open all windows, and arrange for a registered gas contractor to check/repair the LPG cylinder and the gas appliances; and |
|
if the gas leak is serious, leave the premises at once, notify their neighbours for evacuation and then call the Fire Services Department. |
carry out gas installation work related to an LPG cylinder and its fittings by themselves or employ a person who is not a registered gas installer to carry out such work; or |
|
use the gas appliances when they know/suspect that ventilation is inadequate or there is a gas leak; or |
|
use the telephone or operate any electrical switches when they suspect a gas leak; or |
|
accumulate used LPG cylinders or use them for other purposes. |
