Recently, "hot pot" and "pun choi” are becoming more popular, especially in autumn and winter. Cassette cookers, which are easy to be carried and used, are very common to the public for the above purposes. To ensure gas safety, the public should purchase cassette cookers approved by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD), which shall bear a "GU" mark, and read and understand the user manual provided by the manufacturer. When using cassette cookers:
use of genuine parts supplied by the original gas appliance manufacturers; and |
make sure that there is adequate ventilation and keep the appliances away from flammable materials; and |
never fit / remove cartridges near naked flame or heat source; and |
place cartridges according to the instructions on the cartridge surface. Place them with the cartridge guide in upright position; and |
remove LPG cylinders from cassette cookers if the cookers are not frequently used. Ensure storage of disposable cylinders in a dry, cool and well-ventilated location; and |
handle LPG cylinders with care to avoid strong shock or impact that may damage the cylinders and cause gas leakage. |
place any item not supplied by the original gas appliance manufacturer (e.g. energy saving product, tinfoil covering and trivet) between the gas appliance and the cooking ware so as to avoid abnormal burning of the fire which may cause an accident; or |
use oversize plates or pans which extend over the edge of the cartridge cover; or |
put any flammable item or container (e.g. newspaper, pesticide, aerosol can and cigarette lighter, etc.) near the cassette cooker so as to avoid the danger of causing a fire or an explosion; or |
use two cassette cookers in parallel; or |
use cassette cookers if gas leak or equipment damage is suspected; or |
leave cassette cookers switched on unattended; or |
use cassette cookers within commercial premises below ground level, e.g. basement kitchens, seating areas, etc.; or |
store LPG cylinders (including empty cylinders) with a total nominal water capacity of over 130 litres (approximately 50 kg) without the approval of the Gas Authority. |
