The Gas Standards Office (GasSO)
controls the importation, manufacture, storage, transport, supply
and use of gas in the interest of public safety and to ensure local
residents enjoy a high quality of life. My congratulations go to
the GasSO on its outstanding contribution to life in Hong Kong over
the years.
Hong Kong enjoys very high standards of gas safety. Our excellent
safety record has been achieved through a GasSO-led concerted effort
by all parties – Government, gas industry, gas installation
owners and end users – and we must all continue to work together
to ensure that our gas supply and utilisation chain remains safe,
every step of the way.
Gas safety is everyone’s responsibility. While we are using
gas safely, we should also pay attention to its impact on the environment.
This is why the Government promotes the use of this kind of clean
fuel to reduce emissions and improve air quality.
With three decades of solid experience, the GasSO will no doubt
rise to the challenges ahead as gas utilisation continues to grow
and environmental and economic imperatives become more urgent, leading
local residents to help build a greener environment.
I wish the GasSO many more successful decades to come.
