Closer Strategic Partnerships
with Health Sector Clients

The Health Sector Division (HSD) is one of EMSTF’s six strategic business units, serving the Hospital Authority (HA), Department of Health, Government Laboratory and Prince Philip Dental Hospital. To foster stronger strategic partnerships with clients, it has launched a series of initiatives in the past few months.

The key initiative was an internal restructuring with HSD’s original five regional sub-divisions and one central support sub-division reorganised to seven regionalised sub-divisions. The seven sub-divisions now serve their corresponding clients in seven administrative clusters of HA. The aim is to deliver more customer-focused services to clients.

HSD participated in the Charity Walkathon organised by the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, and received the Best Participatory (Other Organisation) Award.

Two US consultants trained over 40 HSD staff on biomedical engineering in the five-day course.
Professor Yong-Ping Zheng from the Department of Health Technology and Informatics of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University gave a presentation at the technology seminar on the latest development of biomedical technologies.

We also proactively reach out to clients, not only in work but also community activities. On 26 November 2011, for example, HSD colleagues participated in the Charity Walkathon organised by the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH). The event was part of the PYNEH Day to raise funds for the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital Charitable Trust to improve patient services. The HSD team was also delighted to receive the Best Participatory (Other Organisation) Award on that day.

EMSTF believes that training is the key to keep our staff abreast of the latest technologies to support clients’ operations, thereby fostering stronger partnership with clients in the long term. HSD organised a five-day training on biomedical engineering from 28 November to 2 December 2011. It was conducted by two consultants from the United States. Over 40 HSD staff were trained on diagnostic ultrasound, ventilator and defibrillator and related technologies. Moreover, we organised a Technology Seminar on Update of Biomedical Technologies on 23 August 2011. Professors from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University delivered talks on the latest development of biosensor technology, optical diagnostics in biomedicine and biomedical ultrasound respectively. Over 80 staff joined the seminar.
