Hose Trolley Adds Value to Client Service

We see fantastic aerial photographs of Hong Kong and hear about injured hikers being airlifted out of country parks. Rarely, though, do we give much thought to the aircraft used on these missions.

EMSTF staff, however, have a different perspective. Noting the risk of injuries posed by the refuelling operation, which involves moving and lifting a 14 kg oil hose, the Fund proposed a change that enhanced the value of its service to Government Flying Service (GFS).

"Thanks for your department in designing and tailor-making this fuel hose trolley for us. It has greatly reduced the risk of injuries to our staff,” said the Senior Aircraft Engineer of GFS.

This involves designing a fuel hose trolley with an adjustable height for the nozzle. In the past, at least two GFS staff were required to carry the heavy oil dispensing nozzle and hose from the oil station to the aircraft and oil might leak if the nozzle was accidentally dropped onto the ground.  With the fuel hose trolley, the oil hose can now be easily wheeled to the aircraft and the nozzle securely positioned for refuelling. This project also won the 1st runner up in the EMSTF Best Improvement Project Competition in 2011.
