Going Digital Communication with TETRA

Trunked radio systems are vital to the operation of the disciplinary forces. With its analogue radio system approaching the end of its serviceable life, the Fire Services Department (FSD) engaged EMSTF to replace it with a TETRA radio system to support its daily operation.

EMSTF is also responsible for the upgrading of trunked radio systems of other government departments such as the Customs & Excise Department.
EMSTF’s professionalism in digitisation of Fire Services Department Radio System was demonstrated.
TETRA stands for TErrestrial Trunked RAdio.  It offers high voice quality, bandwidth efficiency, encrypted communication for security, data transmission, wide coverage and interoperability.  The system developed for FSD also facilitates location tracking and voice recording for incident investigation.  In addition, it has included an interface with the Hong Kong Police Force's Unified Digital Communication Platform, to facilitate communication with police and other frontline public officers as needed.

The digitisation of FSD's radio system has substantially been completed and is in parallel run with the existing analogue radio system till this January.  EMSTF is also in the process of upgrading the trunked radio systems of the Customs & Excise Department and Correctional Services Department, which will soon be digitised to enjoy enhanced communication security and efficiency.
