Voluntary Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Scheme
for Registered Gas Installer (RGI)

• EMSD sets up a continuing development mechanism for Registered Gas Installer (RGI) with an aim to enhancing the practical skills of the trade and the standard of RGI. After consultation with the trade, EMSD planned to implement the Voluntary Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Scheme for RGI. The implementation of the CPD Scheme obtained the consent from the GSAC in its meeting in June 2022, and was put into operation on 1 January 2023.

• Details are as follows:

  Module	Item	Content
  Module 1	Legislative and Safety Requirements	Legislative requirements in Gas Safety Ordinance and safety requirements in conducting gas installation work
  Module 2	Technical Knowledge	Knowledge related to design, installation, maintenance, testing and commissioning of gas installation

• The CPD scheme is 3-year cycle. EMSD encourages RGIs to complete at least one course of Module 1 and one course of Module 2 in a cycle.

• RGI can fulfill Module 1 and 2 of the CPD Scheme through one of the following modes of training:

  1. Training, Gas Safety Seminar / Briefing organized by EMSD;
  2. Recognized training courses by Registered Gas Supply Companies, Registered Gas Contractors, trade unions and VTC.
• RGIs may login EMSD mobile app E&M Trade App to obtain the latest updates of the scheme, apply the training courses organized by EMSD and check their CPD training record.
• For recognized training courses by other organizations, the training organizer will submit the training records to EMSD direct for recording. Training record submitted directly by RGI, which is not found in the training organizer's record, is not accepted in general.
