The management and staff of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) are both committed to achieving carbon neutrality and creating a greener environment through ongoing environmental conservation, protection and improvement programmes.
We are committed to providing quality services, which contribute to the quality of life for everyone in Hong Kong. In line with the goals of mitigating climate change and developing a smart and low-carbon city, we have taken a proactive approach to environmental protection and conservation by adopting the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, with a view to realising the vision of "Zero Carbon Emission and Carbon Neutrality" before 2050.
Taking green measures and good practices to support green buildings and introduce new energy vehicles (e.g. hydrogen fuelled vehicles) is one of the priorities of the EMSD. The EMSD Headquarters Building was the first existing government building awarded the Platinum Rating under BEAM Plus for Existing Buildings and Neighbourhood by the Hong Kong Green Building Council in 2016. It further scored the highest possible Final Platinum Rating under BEAM Plus Existing Buildings V2.0 in late 2023.
We will continue to explore innovative solutions in collaboration with the trades to further reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, and enhancing sustainability performance.
